Technological Advances In January of 2004, the Recorder of Deeds office began a comprehensive search for the best computerization system that allow for efficient recording, detailed searching, and ease of use. After review of over a dozen software systems, we selected Aptitude Solution for use on their Oncore Based recording system. This revolutionized the way documents are recorded in Dauphin County. Prior to this change, documents we hand-clocked, hand stamped, photocopied and placed in books on shelves, The only way a document could be seen |

was to physically review the book or microfilm in the Recorder's office, and then make another photocopy. Now documents are immediately scanned and digitized for their images to be on computers in the office as well as the internet, and normally the document is returned to the customer with 48 hours. As a result, recording and researching documents at the Recorder of Deeds office has not only become easier and more convenient. In addition, we have back scanned over 4.2 million images to provide an index and library of documents that date back to 1979. This system provides a benefit to the professional searcher industry, as well as the citizen of Dauphin County who may have an occasion to print a copy of a deed, mortgage, or satisfaction of a mortgage. No longer will there be the need to drive to the Courthouse, find parking, pay for parking, and attempt to find the proper book in which the document is located. Now that document will be at our customer's fingertips in the comfort of their home or office. we will continue to embark on back scanning older documents and indexes so searching documents prior to 1979 can be done soon.
